The Chinese Dragon Boat Festival is a significant (有意義的)holiday celebrated(慶祝)in China, and the one with the longest history (歷史最悠久). The Dragon BoatFestival is celebrated by boat races (龍舟賽) in the shape of dragons. Competingteams (競爭團隊) row their boats forward to a drumbeat (擊古)racing to reach thefinish end first.
The boat races during the Dragon Boat Festival are traditional customs(傳統習俗)to attempts to (試圖)rescue (搭救) the patriotic poet (愛國詩人)Chu Yuan. Chu Yuandrowned (溺死) on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month in 277 B.C. Chinesecitizens now throw bamboo leaves (竹葉) filled with cooked rice into thewater.
Therefore the fish could eat the rice rather than the hero poet. This lateron turned into the custom of eating tzungtzu and rice dumplings(棕子).
The celebration's is a time for protection (防護) from evil (邪惡) and disease(疾病) for the rest of the year. It is done so by different practices such ashanging healthy herbs on the front door, drinking nutritious concoctions (營養品),and displaying (展示) portraits (畫像) of evil's nemesis(邪惡報應), Chung Kuei. If onemanages to (成功做...) stand (直立)an egg on it's end at exactly 12:00 noon, thefollowing year will be a lucky one.
Today, people eat bamboo-wrapped steamed glutinous(粘的) rice dumplingscalled zongzi (the food originally intended to feed the fish) and race dragonboats in memory of Qu's dramatic death.

To the Chinese people it is as important as Christmas to people in theWest.
The dates for this annual celebration are determined by the lunar calendarrather than the Gregorian calendar, so the timing of the holiday varies fromlate January to early February.
To the ordinary Chinese, the festival actually begins on the eve of thelunar New Year‘s Day and ends on the fifth day of the first month of the lunarcalendar. But the 15th of the first month, which normally is called the LanternFestival, means the official end of the Spring Festival in many parts of thecountry.
Spring Festival is the most importantand popular festival in reSpring Festival ,the people usually clean and decorate their they goto the Flower Fairs to buy some flowers.
During Spring Festival ,the adults usually give lucky money le often get together and have a big people eat dumplingfor dinner.
