a couple of weeks ago, when i learned the theme of today?s competition, i asked some of my roommates: “what does ?faith? mean to you?” just coming back from a philosophy class, the girls were in a poetic mood: “faith is what john lennon had when he wrote the legendary song ?imagine? and dreamed of ?world peace?”, “faith is what the hebrews had when they followed moses through the red sea in search of their freedom.” “and faith is what the pilgrims had when they journeyed to that strange land on mayflower, and started their pursuit of a new life.”

thanks for the history lesson girls, but i was not asking for a great, historic event where faith might have altered the entire course of humanity. all i asked was “what does faith mean to you, to us, the individuals toiling with life?s hard choices each day?” personally speaking, faith is like oxygen: i didn?t know how precious it was until i ran the risk of losing it.

my heart stirs still every time memory brings me back to three years ago, when the devastating earthquake engulfed our country. as one of the few cities that took the hit the hardest that day, my hometown was suddenly devoured by a black hole of depression. having forsaken our worldly possessions, my family joined the army of tents every night, holding our breath and waiting for daybreak; having abandoned the comfort of home, we managed to lift ourselves up, along with neighbors and friends, when each after-shock threatened to tear us down. as a politician once put it, in the face of disaster, we?re reminded that life can be unimaginably cruel, but it?s also in these moments, that we rediscover our common faith in life.

indeed, during those dark hours, faith blazed in the courage of my math teacher ms. liu, when she stayed behind in a shaking building until she made sure that the last student had safely evacuated; faith radiated from the persistence of my dad when he kept his eyes wide open every single night, so that my mom and i could have a good night?s sleep; faith was ignited from the empathy of my next-door neighbor, when she took a stranger that was in shock into her arms and consoled him with her warm embrace. in the end, faith was rekindled in the passion of me and my fellow classmates, who immediately got back to preparing for our college entrance examination the very next day, with gritted teeth, and a conviction as steady as a rock.

ladies and gentlemen, this is what faith means to me. it?s the small voice in our ears that says: be strong, be good, and don?t give up whenever we?re frustrated by life. that's why after three years, my friends and family have picked themselves up, dusted themselves off and with tougher spirits, begun again their journey towards a better future.

at last, to twist the lyrics of last year?s charity song, i call upon my fellow young friends to chant together with me, in the name of faith, for all those who are still suffering in haiti, japan and myanmar: when i get older, i will be stronger, they?ll call me faith, just like a waving flag. let us carry above our heads the waving flag called faith, and let its many inspirations lift us up from where we belong.

good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen;

when i first saw the topic set for this contest,

i suddenly recalled a conversation with an indian-american lady during the annual forum(討論會)of the young presidents' organization. she told me she was impressed by the student volunteers in two respects: first, all the students could speak very good english; second, many of them know a lot about western culture and society. but when it come to some issue of chinese culture from time to time they stammered and stuttered(口吃)why so?she was baffled. and i explained that for students in china, fluent language with an authentic accent has always been the main if not the only criterion for good english. well, you see. she told me: "though i've been living in the states for many years, i've still got an indian accent, but that is nothing to be ashamed of. what is more important is how to bring your own culture to the outer world by using this language." up till this day, this very moment, her words have still kept echoing in my ears. and i suddenly realized that the process of globalization is somewhat similar to that of language learning. in the process of globalization, when every nation is busy learning the common rules, regulations and even the language, we also have to pay equal-if not greater attention to our culture, to our national identity. how to preserve and maintain our own cultural integrity(完整),this is the biggest challenge for us young people. when standing on the threshold of the new era, young people are provided with unprecedented(空前) opportunities. via the internet, now we are just a click away from the most up-to-date information; cooperation has transcended(超越) all the national boundaries and geographical distance; and now we can have our part to play in a broader stage, a global stage. yet, when china accelerates its pace of opening up to the whole world, just as the case of language learning, many youngsters are also losing themselves in the ocean of western cultures. my dear fellow student, ask ourselves when we are getting more and more attracted to hollywood blockbusters, how many of us have ever enjoyed peking opera with the same enthusiasm? ask ourselves if we can tell foreign guests about our own culture as much as they may tell us about theirs. ask ourselves when we are busy following the fashion of those korean hiphops, can we create our own style which they may also exclaim, "wow, that's cool!" and here is the crux(癥結) of the matter: globalization should not be a huge melting pot into which people of uniqueness only to come out all the same; it should(更多精彩文章請關注好 範文網:) not be a process in which countries gradually lose their identities. to my understanding, it should be a grand orchestra: an orchestra in which every player has his particular position and function; an orchestra where the uniqueness of every member is so cherished that anyone's role is irreplaceable by anyone else; an orchestra based on the joint contribution of every participant, which can and will produce the most beautiful symphony of tomorrow's peace and prosperity. my dear fellow students, our older generation have created a very splendid culture, and now it's our duty to carry the work on, to strive for a more beautiful future. i hope next time, when the lady again comes to china, she will not only marvel at we chinese young people using fluent english introducing our magnificent culture, but also see that we are not only eager to learn but also eager to tell. we are telling the whole world, "yes, we have made a difference!" thank you very much! actually, this is a very interesting topic and i'm very glad that here i can share my opinion of this topic with you. frankly speaking, i enjoyed going to zoo very much because i think it has provided us with a very good opportunity to get entertainment. and also it can provided us with a good chance to be nearer to the nature. but, my opinion has changed since my last visit to a zoo actually in that zoo, the elephants have caught the whole spotlight, because they were so cute and they can do various tricks and performance.

01】if i were a boy again

if i were a boy again, i would practice perseverance(毅力)more often, and never give up a thing because it was hard or inconvenient. if we want light, we must conquer darkness. perseverance can sometimes equal genius in its results. “there are only two creatures,” says a proverb, “who can surmount the pyramids—the eagle and the snail.”

if i were a boy again, i would school myself into a habit of attention; i would let nothing come between me and the subject in hand. i would remember that a good skater never tries to skate in two directions at once. the habit of attention becomes part of our life, if we begin early enough. i often hear grown-up people say “i could not fix my attention on the lecture or book, although i wished to do so” , and the reason is, the habit was not formed in youth.

if i were to live my life over again, i would pay more attention to the cultivation of the memory. i would strengthen that faculty by every possible means, and on every possible occasion. it takes a little hard work at first to remember things accurately; but memory soon helps itself, and gives very little trouble. it only needs early cultivation to become a power.

if i were a boy again, i would look on the cheerful side. life is very much like a mirror: if you smile upon it, i smile back upon you; but if you frown and look doubtful on it, you will get a similar look in return.

inner sunshine warms not only the heart of the owner, but of all that come in contact with it. “who shuts love out ,in turn shall be shut out from love.”

finally, instead of trying hard to be happy, as if that were the sole purpose of life, i would, if i were a boy again, i would still try harder to make others happy.

★【演講稿05】don’t give up

if we would ever accomplish anything in life, let us not forget that we must persevere. if we would learn our lessons in school, we must be diligent and not give up whenever we come to anything difficult. we shall find many of our lessons very hard, but let us consider that the harder they are the better they will do to us if we will persevere and learn them thoroughly.

but there are some among us who are ready to give up when they come to a hard example in mathematics, and say, "i can't do this." they never will if they feel so. "i can't" never does anything worthwhile; but "i'll try" accomplishes wonders.

let us remember that we shall meet with difficulties all through life. they are in the pathway of everyone. if we will only try and keep trying, we shall be sure to conquer and overcome every difficulty we meet with. if we have a hard lesson today, let us strive to learn it well and then we shall be prepared for a harder one tomorrow. and if we learn to master hard lessons in school, it will prepare us to overcome the hard things that we shall meet in life, when our school days are over.

★ 【演講稿06】treasure your life

dear fri

ends, we all know that in winter, nearly all the trees stop growing and nearly all the flowers stop blooming. but as spring is coming, the trees will turn green and all kinds of flowers will smile for us once again. that means trees and flowers can wither and then begin to grow again. but what about our lives? each one of us has only one chance to live in the world, so we must treasure our lives! living in the world is not easy for every person. but it is something that we all must do. we can own blue sky, the warm sunshine and all the beauty; only when we are alive, can we enjoy the pleasure of life; only when we are alive, can we do things. but if you lose your life, how can you love others and how can you make contributions to the world? so, please, treasure your life!

in fact we live in the world not only for ourselves, but also for all the people who love us. parents love us very much. when we are happy, they will smile cheerfully. but if we are in trouble, they immediately become sad. as parents, they only hope that we can live with them happily! so, we must also treasure our lives, for our parents!

to treasure your life, remember the following. first, you must learn to smile. if you are always smiling at others, others will smile at you. smiling can help you overcome your sadness. don’t cry to the world, just smile! secondly, never lose heart. nobody can always be successful in everything. we all fail at some time. please remember the saying, “failure is the mother of success.” just keep on showing your courage. nothing difficult can stop you. thirdly, imagine your bright future when you grow up. maybe you will be a doctor, a write or a teacher, but whatever you do, the future must be helpful. so, now, love yourself, and after a few years you will enjoy the life you want.

after all, we are still young. we shouldn’t worry about the future too much. we only need to live and study happily. time is too short to waste. we must love our lives every day.

treasure your life. you can be successful in everything!

treasure your life. the world will become a more and more beautiful place!

treasure your life, and a great future will belong to you.

for our students, marks is above everything. teachers will judge us from our marks. with marks we can be enrolled into junior middle schools. with marks, we can be enrolled into senior middle schools. with marks we can be enrolled into college. with marks we can be enrolled into postgraduate and doctrine studies. still with marks we can be graded and be allowed to go abroad for further stu
