As a chinese, I was really ashamed of having a little knowledge of dragon boat festival. Perhaps I was born in northern city, though my city is nearby sea, it has been built a U port which I can only see cargo ships and can’t see the sweeping ocean. So I have never see the dragon boat contest since I was born. So the dragon boat festival is just a holiday for eating “Zong Zi”。 My mother made Zong Zi when I was a child. Because there was no supermarket, we couldn’t buy finished product from market. However, now, we can buy anything in supermarket, so my mother didn’t make them anymore. The boat festival began to fade out my mind.

In reality, young people began to have a bug to celebrate foreign festivals, such as Christams, Saint Valentine’s day, April Fool’s Day, some people also celebrate Easter in church. Talk about Dragon boat festival, it’s the same as some foreign conventional festivals, such as Witch’s Day in Czech. People burned the witch’s puppet so as to welcome spring. Some people are willing to celebrate foreign festivals because they like alien culture. And vice versa, foreigners who like China also concern about Chinese traditional culture.

After new holiday regulation, we have three holidays during the dragon boat festival. So many people will choose this time to travel. People who lived in Xiamen are able to visit Xiapu or Wu Yi mountain, these tourist attractions are in Fujian province,which is suit a short tirp. but I’d like to stay at home for my decorate painting. I decide to draw two canvases about Christmas, it’s really a big project. Then I’ll hang them on the new house wall. I must start it now, or I can’t finish them before Christmas eve. But I preceive it’s a little difficult to draw them in such a hot season.

In some places, people spread realgar on the children in the hope of protecting them from the evil spirits.

Many people consider May as an especially dangerous time for diseases in a year, and therefore they hang moxa and calamus and things like that around the doors to off evil and diseases and pray for good luck.

A few days before the Dragon Boat Festival, mom began to make zongzi. She prepared fresh bamboo leaves, a large pot of good sauce and glutinous rice, fragrant meat stuffing. The first mother Zongye folded into the funnel, grabbed some rice, evenly in the bottom. Then I put a piece of meat filling in the middle, then spread a layer of sticky rice, stacked the tail of the dumplings, and turned the head of the dumplings into sharp corners. Finally, tie up the rope, and a small and exquisite zongzi is wrapped up. Mother put dumplings in the pot boiled, a fragrant smell of the nose, I heard the direct water, mother saw, hastened to take out a zongzi, untied the rope, handed me, said: “little cat, eat it.” I immediately took a big mouth.

Duanwu Festivalis a traditional Chinese festival held on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese calendar. It is also known as the Double Fifth. It has since been celebrated, in various ways, in other parts of East Asia as well. In the West, it‘s monly known as Dragon Boat Festival.

The exact origins of Duan Wu are unclear, but one traditional view holds that the festival memorializes the Chinese poet Qu Yuan of the Warring States Period. He mitted su icide by drowning himself in a river because he was disgusted by the corruption of the Chu government. The local people, knowing him to be a good man, decided to throw food into the river to feed the fish so they would not eat Qu‘s body. They also sat on long, narrow paddle boats called dragon boats, and tried to scare the fish away by the thundering sound of drums aboard the boat and the fierce looking carved dragon head on the boat‘s prow。

In the early years of the Chinese Republic, Duan Wu was also celebrated as “Poets‘ Day,” due to Qu Yuan‘s status as China‘s first poet of personal renown。

Today, people eat bamboo-wrapped steamed glutinous（粘的）rice dumplings called zongzi（the food originally intended to feed the fish）and race dragon boats in memory of Qu‘s dramatic death.
