《Adventure in Literature and the Cinema》教學設計
Teaching objective:
1. Students will promote their reading ability.
2. Students will understand the main idea and detailed information of this passage.
3. Students will foster their interest in English learning.
Teaching method:
team discussion, ask and answer some question
Teaching procedure:
Step1:Lead-in
At the beginning of the class, the teacher will ask students two questions:
Q1:Do you know the famous writer Mark Twain?Can you introduce him to us?
Q2:Have you ever read his novels?
Step2:While-reading
The teacher will give them 6 minutes to read this passage quickly and then think about this question :What is the main idea of this passage?
Next the teacher will give them 10 minutes to read this passage carefully and finish this following tasks.
Task 1:Answer
1. What was the weather like after midnight?
2. Who do you think is braver?
3. Can you guess why the two men wanted to kill the other man?
4. What was Huck’s feeling after they stole their boat?
Task 2:Translation
1. So we paddled over and climbed on to the steamboat,keeping as quiet as mice.
於是我們把木筏划過去,躡手躡腳地,像老鼠一樣悄無聲息地爬上了汽艇。
2. It was quite dark,but I could see a man lying on the floor, tied up with rope.
四周很黑,但我能看見一個人被繩子捆着,躺在地上。
3. The man with the gun hada satisfied expression on his face.
拿槍的這個人臉上流露出滿意的表情
4. He arrived in New Orleans without a penny in his pocket, only to find that there were no boats for South America.
他身無分文地到達新奧爾良,結果卻發現這兒沒有去南美洲的船。
Step3:After-reading
The teacher will devide them into five groups and guide them to discuss a topic question:Who is your favourite writer in your mind ?
Step4:Summary
This class, we study a passage about Mark Twain and master some new words and phrases.
Important words:biography, fantasy, detective, solve, Important sentences:1. We stayed inside the shelter we had built and let the raft sail down the river.
2. It looked like a house at first.
3. It looks as if it’ll go under soon.
4. I don’t want to board a sinking ship.
